How to Use this Site

Before you begin your exploration, get an overview of ArtNC by watching a short video tour.

ArtNC Home features a multi-function search menu that allows you to easily locate works of art, curriculum themes and classroom materials by geographic region, subject area and grade level. Each month you will find a different resource featured at the bottom of the home page. At the top of the page, scroll details of NCMA works of art using the Artwork Explorer. Explore and compare each work by clicking on that works thumbnail. View Related will display works of art related to the Feature of the Month. View All will load works of art used throughout the ArtNC web site. By clicking on the orange NCMA logo, you can return to the Museum's home page.

Ask or answer a question about a work of art whenever you see the following icons:

To post a question about a work of art, click on the "Q" icon and submit your question in the pop-up window. The "!" icon means a question about this work has been posted and is awaiting an answer. The "A" button means an answer to a question has been posted. Multiple answers may be posted for each question. Both students and teachers should feel free to ask and answer questions.

Themes and Lessons model ways of integrating art into general class instruction. Thematic units highlight selected works of art from the North Carolina Museum of Art's collection and demonstrate how these works can be used in the classroom to teach about a world of topics. Each curricular theme includes background information on the works of art, short classroom activity ideas, in-depth lesson plans and related vocabulary. Explore and use these resources in your own way.

Resource Room provides easy access to the Museum's educational resources and services. Browse NCMA online resources, lending materials, tours and programs. These materials can be searched by geographic region, subject and grade level by using the search menu at ArtNC Home.

Subject icons are used in both activity ideas and the Resource Room to make finding related subject information easy at a glance. Below is the subject icon key.

Works of Art features selections from the collections of the North Carolina Museum of Art. Search these works by artist, geographic region and medium. Learn background information on each work and locate them on a map. Compare, print or even download large images.

ArtNC Info helps you navigate the site, contact NCMA staff and understand trademark and use guidelines.

Teachers' Lounge is a place to share ideas and ask questions of each other and museum staff. General information about visiting the North Carolina Museum of Art is also listed here.

Student Center lists upcoming NCMA events and programs for students of all ages. The Student Forum is a space to share questions and ideas your peers.
