Three veterans of the North Carolina Symphony, plus accomplished pianist June Burbage, offer another musical take on the intellectual currents that influenced Norwegian artist Edvard Munch.
Munch came of age during a time of creative ferment in European culture. Artists of the late 19th century sought more direct and authentic modes of expression. Arriving in Paris in 1889, Munch found inspiration in symbolist and postimpressionist experiments in color and form. In musical composition, especially in France, the spirit of the times is exquisitely reflected in the music of Debussy and Milhaud, whose work will be performed in this concert.
