Hometown heroine Tift Merritt has established herself as one of America’s finest singer-songwriters. All Music Guide calls her “the Emmylou Harris of her generation” and notes that she “seems incapable of making an uninteresting or emotionally dishonest record.” She recently released her fifth studio album, Traveling Alone, her most rewarding yet. Nate Chinen of the New York Times writes that “the depth and clarity of Ms. Merritt’s singing make these songs feel properly lived in” and that “the touch of sweet sadness in her voice has rarely served her better.”
North Carolina is blessed to claim an artist with the talent and integrity of Tift Merritt, and we’re thrilled to welcome her back to the Park Theater stage.
“Merritt’s achingly beautiful country-tinged tunes hark back to the musical work of Joni Mitchell, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and Leonard Cohen.”—Time
Chris Stamey opens.
