VITAL Health Virtual Flower-Making Workshop (Sold Out)

Vital Health is a community initiative created by artist Stacey L. Kirby and consultant Michael S. Williams to address the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on mental health through flower-making workshops, art installations, and interactive performances. In response to the intersection of racial violence and the increasing effects of COVID-19 on Black and brown communities, Kirby and Williams have included additional collaborators.
For this series of workshops, Kirby leads participants in a meditative flower-making practice while therapist Simone Jacobs (LCSW-C) addresses the effects of past traumas on our lives. Poet Johnny Lee Chapman III shares stanzas from his recent piece “Crisis Materials.” The workshop concludes with a video trailer of a Vital Health film featuring Chapman’s poetry, movement by Anthony Otto Nelson Jr., and wreaths made by community members.
Participants are encouraged to drop off some of their flowers at the NCMA, where Kirby will incorporate them into a Vital Health wreath installation to be on view in the Museum Park this fall.
The free one-hour sessions are facilitated through a secure Zoom link. All materials needed will be sent to registrants in advance. RSVP as soon as possible to secure your spot and ensure you get materials on time.
